Masters Program Description


Program Description:

This is an organized practice for adults, ages from 18 to 101+ years, not swimming lessons.  There is an on-deck coach to lead the practices and provide group and individual instructions for stroke improvements. Some swimmers compete in meets, open water competitions and triathlons, but these are not required.

 
Program Goals:

To encourage swimmers to make swimming an enjoyable lifelong activity
To help each swimmer improve their strokes and reach their aquatic fitness goals
To make workouts interesting, enjoyable and challenging for each swimmer
To encourage more participation in team activities including social events, special challenge swims, meets and open water activities
To encourage swimmers to support and join United States Masters Swimming (www.USMS.org) which supports all adult swimming

 Requirements

Interested swimmers should be:
Able to swim the front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke(good technique and form are not necessary… We can help you with that)
Able to swim 500 yards y(20 lengths x 25 yards) more or less continuously (Don’t worry. Join us and soon this will seem easy)
Willing to learn the butterfly
Able to swim 4 lengths (100 yards) front crawl in under 3 minutes

 Practice times:
5:00 - 6:15 a.m. MWF Bellevue
6:00 - 7:30 a.m. MWF Bellevue
6:00 - 7:00 a.m. TT Coal Creek
6:00 - 7:00 a.m. TT Downtown
5:30 - 6:30 p.m. TT Downtown
8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Sat Bellevue


 Costs:

Currently, there is no additional cost for YMCA members. Others must join the Y. For rates: http://www.seattleymca.org/Locations/Bellevue/Pages/Home.aspx. Click on “Join the Y” at the top of the page. Financial assistance is available to those who cannot afford a membership. Contact the Y for more information. The Annual membership for United States Masters Swimming is $44 for under 65 and $35 for 65 and over.  Membership includes subscriptions to the bi-monthly USMS Masters Swimmer  magazine  and the monthly The Wet Set of the Pacific Northwest Association of Master Swimmers. (USMS membership is required for participation in USMS sponsored events.)
